From Financial Integrity

Step 9. Securing your financial independence

By now, if you've implemented the previous 8 steps, you've realized that financial independence is not what you might think of as "being rich" -- it's merely being free from worry about how your bills will get paid, regardless of whether or not you are employed.

In Step 9. you will establish your own long-term investment program to guarantee sufficient income from a source other than paid employment for the foreseeable future. The purpose of this step is to enable you to live freely, without worrying about your finances -- neither your employment nor your portfolio. The key to this step is to become knowledgeable, adept and sophisticated about investments.

This does NOT mean you need to become a Wall Street wizard. It just means you need to fully understand and take responsibility for the options you pursue within your own limited criteria for investing. Like all steps in this program, you will find that financial choices become much easier when you evaluate your options in relation to long term fulfillment and maximum freedom.
